The 30 th July 2014  is World Friendship Day. It was initiated by the UN General Assembly in 2011 and was designed to  inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. It does this by celebrating friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals across the world.

People are encouraged to take part in activities that promote dialogue, understanding and reconciliation.Young people are encouraged to become future leaders in community activities, that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity.

Do you have any stories based on the theme of friendship? Have you got a story about a really good friend, someone you have shared something important together with, or just have a great time with. What is it that you value in a friend? Perhaps you have a friend that you really miss or have lost touch with. How do you find  making friends nowadays, is it harder than previous times, do you meet enough people, if so how do you do it?  Or do you conduct your friendships online, such as on Facebook? Whatever the story, we'd love to hear from you.

A lot of people make friends online now. Facebook seems to have changed what a friend is defined as. I have a few hundred now but some people were friends years ago, or at school. I have found it a great way of keeping up with what people are doing  and I have met a few people who I’d lost touch with,so its been really helpful.  I ve met a lot of people by going to events like quiz nights and discos at local pubs. After a few visits you meet quite a few people. I‘d really  recommend it  if your trying to widen your social circle. There are also lots of community groups and activities you can get involved in, and volunteering is a great way to meet new people. If you're interested  you could get in touch with your local CVS or see if there is a local volunteering centre near you.Heres a link to the Salford CVS site.

Please Send Us Your Stories by 28 th July 2014 and tag them #friendship#
