What are your hopes and fears for the future? M: My hopes are that housing prices become cheaper, so that when I am eventually in a better financial position I can buy a property. I hope to be able to pay a strong deposit so that my mortgage isn’t too much. What changes would you like to happen in order for you to have a better life? M: I would like to have a change in minimum wage because the cost of living has increased a considerable amount over the last few years so the current minimum wage doesn’t cover a significant enough amount of bills and other priority expenses. British families are struggling to keep food on the table and the heating on, it’s a real problem. How are you involved in making decisions about what matters to you? M: I used to be a part of the committee for a local financial organisation where I helped to oversee where a considerable grant effectively benefit my community. That money ended up funding summer projects for the youth, a mobile skate park and an ice rink. During the same time period, I volunteered my time to a communal youth space where I got to interact and collaborate with young people and because of that I achieved formal Level 1 youth work and ‘first aid in the workplace’ certificates.
