About four months ago (and only a few weeks after we had moved into our first house), me and my partner decided to get kittens.
It has been the best decision we have ever made. We were already cat lovers but the impact they have had on my life has been great.
I sometimes get really stressed out, I'm not very good at handling that stress but walking through the door and seeing the two kittens either napping or coming to say hello when I arrive back is a lovely treat.
They like a good stroke too, apparantly the resonance of a cats purring has been proven to reduce humans blood pressure and help with relaxation. I can attest to this, it works wonderfully. It's also nice to know that there are creatures in the house who need our help and support. Knowing that feeding and watering needs to be done is a great way of getting out of your own head when things are getting on top of you.
Last night there was a thunderstorm and the kittens were scared of the loud noises, immediately, we both heard a scramble of little paws and they jumped on our bed and hid with us underneath the duvet. Knowing that we are their safety blanket when things get scary is a lovely thing.
I think fundamentally though, they are wonderful company, my partner is about to embark on an intensive 5 week course to learn about Social Work, this will involve her being away for a while. Luckily, the kittens have me and I have the kittens to support each other. I think we'll be fine.
