International Youth  Day takes place this year  on August 12 th . It is an awareness day designated by the United Nations to draw attention to cultural and legal issues involving youth worldwide. Around the world concerts, workshops and cultural events  are held, as well as meetings between local government officials and  youth organisations .

But what does youth mean to you? And does the issue of 'youth' deserve a global day? To find out more click on the link .

What  are your stories about youth today ? Do you know any young people who have done something exceptional in their community or in at school. Do you think young people  are represented in well  in the media or do they get shown in too much of a negative light?

I have been working at People's Voice Media for over 5 years now and have met a lot of young people who really have a go at learning and getting involved. There have been some great volunteers who I have mentored and supported. They have been committed and hard working  and it sometimes seems a shame when you hear that there isn’t enough employment opportunities for them. It must feel like quite a burden to have to borrow so much money to go to University. I have met a number of young people who feel stuck as they can’t move from a low paid less, skilled job to a better one as there just aren’t any opportunities that they can find.

Theres a great film here featuring young people talking about their issues, in their own words.
