On Friday 25th April Barton Ladies held their Easter coffee morning. There was as usual a good attendance and some of the ladies regaled us by parading with their amazing Easter bonnets. Prizes were awarded for all participants amid loud laughter, cheering and music.( see image.) a poem was read called Junk Mail by its composer Mo Conner. All the ladies attending were treated to the usual sandwiches/cakes and an endless supply of tea/coffee served by the buzz boys, plus a small box of mini Easter eggs. We were also treated to a song from Les Miserables by Terry our resident singer as a taster for the musical review night on the 2nd May and some 25 tickets were sold, his performance was nothing short of brilliant.
Hear is the poem by Mo.
A poem by Mo Conner.
Junk mail who needs it I ask you
As if we don’t have enough to do
Sifting through this and shredding that
,As another barrowful lands on the mat
,Gas bills, phone bills, brochures galore
,No wonder I can’t get through the door
Gadget books with lots of things
Like watches, bracelets and dazzling rings
Zip up bootees and heated slippers
Incontinence pads and enormous white knickers,
Slip on shoes that polish the floor
Then I end up through a-and-e door.
I’ll buy one thing I hear myself say As the caller reads me the deal of the day,
We’ve got five pillows and a matching bedspread
Do they think we’re always in bed? Then there’s the take-aways straight in the bin
How much do they think we can really stuff in.
2 So beware of junk mail or seal up your box
Or else they’ll be after you for a new pair of socks.
Oh the fun of what comes through the door,
I’ve had enough thats for sure.
Composed by Mo Conner a talented Barton Lady.
