Report transcript in: Reflecting on ways the Newham Community Researchers add value to and support Newham Public Health
Please Report the Errrors?
So today we've come to Katherine Road Community Centre,
and we have been talking to a group of residents who are over 50 who usually attend
an over fifties group.
We've been talking to them about the 50 steps of refresh and the air areas that they,
um, find not so much of of a concern,
but the areas that they feel that we could focus on as a council, um,
areas that we could improve that would support them
to access health services and to prove their overall,
um, to improve their overall health and well being.
Um And we've had a conversation, um, with the group,
we split into two groups and we talked about,
People and who are most in need of health support services.
We talked about places. So areas that we can deliver these services from,
um and make
the most of the spaces that we have already in
new and partnerships. So how we can work better with maybe the
or voluntary sector organisations and so on
and have those conversations. So we'll be sharing ideas
today and listening to what the residents have told us in conversation,
um, the researchers. Absolutely amazing.
Just really great at, um, engaging in conversation.
Um, we were able to use their their own skill set.
So been able to translate so from different languages. Um, great. At note taking.
So been able to pick up all the things that have been said,
Um, And I learned a great deal.
Um, today in ju just watching how they interact with, um with the with with the group,
Um,
and I,
I think that what I believe is that normally might be
a 11 on one situation where I might talk to somebody,
um, have a one on one conversation, But navigating a group conversation,
a group discussion.
Keeping everybody on track in terms of the conversation was yeah,
it was It was really great.
Um, and just thinking about different ways that,
um we can, uh we can capture what has been said so that it's not forgotten.
So learning today that taking a voice note is really helpful afterwards,
just so that you can put down your, um, uh,
recollections all the things that you that have
been discussed so that it's not forgotten.
And, um though looking back at notes and at,
um, uh uh,
Post it notes.
And things like that is great moving forward, but a lot of the essence might be lost.
So taking a voice note immediately after the
session will help you to keep everything,
um, fresh and, um, and accurate.
So that's a great lesson I learned today.
And it was wonderful working with the peer researchers.
I look forward to doing it again.
