community gardening sustainability allotments friends growing at home in gardens or containers

Over the last few months a new group has formed on Facebook called Don't Skip it...Fill it.... grow your own fruit and vegetables.   The group has over 150 members who live in various regions of the UK.  Places as far away as Devon Cornwall  Torquay  Kent and right up to the East Riding of Yorkshire Scarboro Bridlington Filey and Hull. and Blackpool Wigan and Preston upto Durham and Scotland  from a group that started out in Salford we have become regional which is fantastic because each regions weather is different and people have their own special tips for growing which is now being shared ...at the moment we are all busy sowing seeds indoors or down the allotment and looking forward to planting on our Tomatoes Chillies Broad Beans Garlic lettuces onions etc  many of us have even got our potatoes in early.

What we have been doing is looking in the different affordable shops where lots of bargains have appeared and been grabbed up for use in our own gardening.   At the moment we are applying for funding to help us expand our group to the point where we have our name down for a special allotment so we can  invite people to visit and help seniors or people who are not sure how to make the most out of what space they have.  Along the way we hope to help people with health issues to come together and feel they have support and also make new friends.  The dont skip it fil it is where we get creative and reuse items in the garden instead of sending them to land fill....You will be amazed at some of the ideas members of our group come up with.
