We captured some quotes of people we met at local Foodbanks

Young male in his 30’s: ‘I am in out of prison, I know alcohol is the problem; all I have to do is stop drinking. I am trying! I am on my own. My partner left with the kids. I came out of prison and back to a cold and empty flat with nothing in the cupboard. No money, nothing. I admit the other day I did think what is the point.’

Young female early 30's: 'I said to my mum today, is this as bad as it gets?'

Cara late 20's: 'I used to work for McVitites. Work was allocated via an agency, but the hours were very random and unpredictable. You never knew how much money you will be able to earn. You can't budget and I ended up in a lot of debt. I now have a son and I am trying to work around nursery hours but I am struggling. McDonald has offered me late night shifts, but I don't have childcare. I am on my own.'

Mum and 18 year old son:

Son: 'I don't want to talk, coming to a foodbank is degrading enough'.

Mum: 'I suffer from arthritis and was sacked from my last job due to taking time off sick. I got into rent arrears. We agreed with our housing provider to pay back £83 per fortnight. This only leaves us with £30 for bills and food. My son is trying to find work to support us both'

The quotes have been captured as part of the Stockport Community Insight programme.
