Totems are culturally our brothers and sisters in the bush. The Bakonzo as a tribe like many other tribes in Uganda are divided into clans and each clan is attached to a totem.

I am Omuhira by clan and my clan is the “ENGANGA”(Crested Guinea fowl). I am not supposed to kill, harm or even eat the meat of the Crested Guinea fowl.

This means clans protect the existence of their totems. Since totems are some of the main tourism attractions in Uganda, therefore the culture of totems is important in the promotion of tourism.

Likewise since many tribes and clans share the same totem, a kind of brotherhood exists between the two, bonding them as a united people.

This unity can be promoted to enhance tourism and preserving wildlife. It’s this that ensures guests coming to Uganda.

The promotions of totems can promote tourism in Uganda alongside other factors as improved infrastructures, ensured hospitality among others and their peace and unity subsequently.
