It's been a few months since the Community Reporters came up to Stirley Community Farm to interview our volunteers and lots has happened since then. The video we made that day has had over 300 views on YouTube and we have used it to show people how volunteers have helped the project and how in turn volunteering on the farm has benefited them. Every time we see it we're reminded about what a great project Stirley Community Farm is and we still get a warm fuzzy feeling inside!

Major developments since the video was made include the cow barn being finished in December and the Beef Shorthorn herd being brought inside for the winter. They're very happy and cozy, and we love having them in the yard where we can see them and occasionally feed them some spare kale leaves from the garden... We need to keep a close eye on them at the moment as one of the cows is due to calve this month which everyone is very excited about.

We've held lots of sucessful events including the Autumn Gathering where people from Newsome came together in the Scout Hall to eat soup and carve pumpkins before walking up to Stirley Farm to harvest ingredients to make their own soup. We also launched our appeal to raise £30, 000 towards the project and so far we have raised just over £23, 000 which has been boosted massively by dedicated local supporters who have raised money through a sponsored swim and organising a  ceilidh, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended as well as helping us take a step closer towards reaching our total!
Another project which a number of volunteers, including myself, are working on is a video about the history of farming in the Newsome area which will be screened at an event in May. Using the skills I learned on the Community Reporter workshop, I have interviewed a number of residents to find out how farming has changed over the years. I'm enjoying putting my skills to use again and I look forward to posting the resulting video when the project is complete!
