Sooo.....WELCOME TO THE SECRET GARDEN FILM PROJECT!
Here you will find weekly updates and info-bites as the project develops! So far we have...sorry, please excuse my manners, I've not yet introduced myself, let alone the project!
I am Reece Williams, a member of the writing collective Young Identity and also one of the administrators on the Secret Garden Film Project.
The Secret Garden Film Project:
The Secret Garden Film Project is a MediaBox Funded project based in Manchester involving 30 young people aged between 13 and 19 years old and the task at hand is to produce 3 short films (each 5 minutes long in length).
The young people will work with Film and Media professionals, who will transfer their skills to the participants, who will then be responsible for all aspects of the project (From scripting, all the way through to organising a public screening in February 2011).
The title of the project came from an idea at Young Identity (A collective of young writers from manchester [www.youngidentity.org] & one half of the project co-ordinators alongside Amazing Heights) to make secret boxes where young people could anonymously post their secrets which Young Identity would then creatively respond to.
Scripts for short films were produced based on some of the secrets and the process of production has begun!
We have sinced recruited 30 young people who have an interest in film and we have allocated these young people to one of three groups, and they have been allocated roles from production assistants, storyboarders, editors, directors of photography, lead actors and supporting actors.
The groups will be in weekly workshops on either a tuesday, wednesday or a thursday at one of two locations (Contact or Moss Side Millennium Powerhouse) and they will learn all the skills necessary to produce some great short films!
The project started a few weeks back and so far it is looking good! We have started contributing to the scrapbooks (which will document the creative process and production process of the films) and have also interviewed some of the participants with a flip camera (oh how we love technology).
This blog will be a weekly occurance, so please pop in every week and you can read up on how this exciting and innovative project is developing!
This promises to be epic!
Reece Williams
