Redbricks Radio 17th March – Spider Park, Birley Fields, Youth Cuts, Asylum story & TUC march

Part One - Redbricks Radio – Spider Park and Birley Fields. Adele and Leonie bring us some of the history and updates on Spider Park, a neglected part on the edge of the Redbricks Estate in Manchester. Then Tamasin interviews Steven about the Manchester Metropolitan University’s plans to build a campus on Birley fields another bit of green space a stone’s throw from our estate.

Part Two – Redbricks Radio – Manchester Mule  team talk about Youth Service closure, the story of a journalist who faces

deportation to Sierra Leone, more on Connexions being axed, ‘new speak’ from the council as they replace Ward Coordination with Neighbourhood management and talk  of the TUC rally and parallel protest from UK Uncut happening at the same time.  All of this sandwiched up with leftfield music and insights from Rod aka Dr F*wit.

Part Three – Tamasin’s adaptation of “Le Suite Francaise” by Irene Némirovsky.  Némirovsky,  began a planned five-novel cycle as Nazi forces overran northern France in 1940. This gripping “suite,” collecting the first two unpolished but wondrously literary sections of a work cut short, have surfaced more than six decades after her death.

Part Four – Rod’s music hour – an eclectic mix of music from the darkest, innermost reaches of the musical undergrowth.
