Community Reporter is pleased to report on an exciting 4 week project to renovate Mary Magdelene Hall in Winton, Eccles.

Said to be the oldest building in Winton, dating back to June 2nd 1888, when the Countess of Ellesmere laid it's "stone".

Father Ian Hall informs us that, in the past, the hall was a thriving "community hub" used for all kinds of social events. However, over the years, a shortage of funds saw its use decline to the point where it had to close.

Now, thanks to a local Social Enterprise, funding has been obtained to breathe new life into the building and several local community groups, from mother & toddler to martial arts and youth projects, have expressed interest in using the hall. Exciting times!!

If that wasn't enough good news, the work is being carried out by Community Building Support Services; an organisation that takes young people with skills obtained in their training centre and gives them experience of REAL building projects to take to prospective employers.

Community Reporter will be following its progress and look forward to seeing this exciting COMMUNITY HUB RE-BORN!
