When Christine was at school there wasn't much support for students with learning disabilities. She attended school at Broomhedge, a special school in a different neighborhood.

School was very difficult, the other children where unkind and most of her memories involve running off. or hiding behind the sports shed waiting for the bus home. She remembers her best friend from school, a girl called Susan would find her and bring her back.

It was the same friend about 30 years later that encouraged her to try some entry level courses in Maths, English and Computing. It took Susan 4 years to convince her to attend.  Once Christine was there she discovered that she quite enjoyed it, and she gained confidence, and built new skills of mixing with new people.  "Some people understand you, some people don't"

This was now 16 years ago, Christine discovered a enjoyment of learning and has tried her hand at pottery & art and has found something she really enjoys in flower arrangement which she does every Friday.
