Despite the Germans invading us amidst the blistery freezing cold winds, we all had a great weekend with the Defend Fife group on site at Lathalmond Railway Museum in Dunfermline.

The WW2 history festival ran over both days, with lots to see and do, military vehicles & displays, military re-enactors, exhibitions, assault course, music, stalls, and a battle between the invading troops & the allied forces.

Both railways were running each day courtesy of Shed47 with a break from 1300 each day whilst the battle was on, easy not to miss as the air raid siren and field gun roared across the field.

All very informative with model railway and a new exhibition "Captured in Time" (Not to forget the secret site plans) battle displays, museum, free trips on the historic vintage buses and family friendly railway.

Visitors arrived to discover the story of 1940s Dunfermline, which had its defences strengthened in the war years against infiltration from enemy tanks and paratroopers. Young and old investigated the recently unearthed confidential maps and plans, drawn up by the allied Polish armies, who were exiled to Scotland during World War II. These plans - which were an enforcement of the roadblocks, checkpoints and fighting positions created by Dunfermline's home guard - were prepared in the result of ultimate invasion. The festival will retell this interesting story through the eyes of the Scottish and Polish soldiers who worked hard to ensure Fife remained protected.

Scottish Military Vehicle group were out and proud displaying there vast array of vehicles and we even managed to squeeze in a patrol around the city centre, which for me was my highlight of the weekend as I rode in one of the tanks!! Hair and makeup was definately out the window but I just couldn't resist a photo op....and I probably had a permanent grin on my face the rest of the day! Such a shame that's the last event of the year but it's been blast!

MOD251 was hauling the brake van today to keep it in the military theme and was popular as ever along with Jan on the Narrow guage line it was a good day passenger wise. Was great to see Lathalmond get into character and take part in the event too.
