Poem on image of child looking out from doorway with his soft toy

Brighter Days Ahead - a poem by Ash Smith

The hundred watt bulb shines down like a sun,

the dark days and nights are not much fun,

inside these four walls I have spent so long,

thinking and wondering where did it go wrong,

the torment we faced in the past year,

the deaths and sickness filled us with fear.

The sun is shining like a magnificent light,

wait what's this? Is it the end of our plight?

maybe the darkness is starting to lift,

and the sands of time are starting to shift,

these four walls that held me will open up yet,

and back to the new normal we can all get,

to continue our lives with respect but spare thought,

for all those we lost and what we have been taught.
