2016 November attacks widows receives relief materials
KASESE: Over 60 widows of the 26 and 27 November 2016 Rwenzururu Royal Palace raid have received relief material worth ten million shillings
According to Helen Kezia-Nwoha the Executive Director Isis-women international cross cultural exchange spearheaded by Uganda Women Network and Creation Forum Africa decided to share their experience as women and giving relief material to the window as one way of bringing hope to them.
Speaking at Kagando primary school in Bwesumbu Sub County where women window groups had gathered and a place where a number of royal guards were put out of action, Helen observed that apart from relief materials as women groups they advocate for peace and development skilling of several window women as one way of powering them to reduce poverty.
She added that as women a lot of their rights are violated which keeps them in sorrow state, helpless, so needy with hope that in case they are given chance to share with experienced people a lot can be done.
In attendance the RPC Julius Tusingwire hailed the women activists for not promoting violence instead train women on how to keep peace in their community.
Julius promised total support to women groups who sit together for development instead of those who promote violence in communities.
The area chairperson three Bwesumbu sub-county Samson Bagenda narrated that a lot of support is need in the area appealing to any well wisher to donate to the widows and orphans to cater for their bright future.
He warned people who have continued to share widows that they will arrest them for eying wives of royal guards which create fear in the area.
One year since the 26th and 27th November raid on the royal palace which climaxed with the arrest of the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere and 161 others, Julius Tusingwire, the Regional Police Commander Rwenzori East says that the palace and administration offices are still crime scenes and remain cordoned off.
Earlier on, Civil Society Organizations had called the Ugandan government to facilitate independent and transparent investigations with international expertise into the November 2016 killings of civilians in Kasese, and hold security forces accountable.
