As part of their initial training Community Reporters in Wensleydale asked each other "Why do you want to be a Community Reporter?". Here Di Jolland tells Claire Lambert what motivated her.

Dynamic Diana takes Leyburn by storm with her Community Reporting.

Diana Jolland of Leyburn, has recently been received training to become one of Leyburn’s first Community Reporters for the newly formed Lower Wensleydale Community website.

The website has been launched with funding from the Leader project and is administered by Colin Bailey, but is reliant upon input from budding journalists like Diana.  Diana’s background has been in tourism, working for 10 years until retirement at the Tourist Information Centre in Leyburn.  She is a mind of information on the local area, Diana knows all the best eating places around the area including where you can get that essential Yorkshire cup of tea, not to mention some of the best walks across Wensleydale.

“I am passionate about the Dales, I have lived here for 10 years now and just love the scenery and friendliness of the people”  “I want to do my best to promote Leyburn and the wider area of Wensleydale to visitors and residents alike and I feel this new website is a brilliant medium to do this.  I want to pass information on about all the great things there are to see and do in Wensleydale and encourage others to stay longer and visit more frequently”.

Diana is planning her first articles and entitled a “Grand Day Out” she is writing about 5 days out which visitors and locals can enjoy across the dale.  On the day when I met Diana, she was putting the final touches to her day out in Hawes.

“You can reach Hawes very easily by public transport, either using the Wensleydale Railway to Redmire then taking a bus up to Hawes and of course you can walk some of the way too!”  “Once in Hawes there is the Dales Countryside Museum, The Ropeworks, Wensleydale Creamery and Gayle Mill all to visit”.  Indeed a Grand Day Out.

If you have a story or some news for the website please contact Diana on 01969 663123 or email dianajolland@leyburntoday.com
