WOLF POPULATION UNDER THREAT

Activists spur discussion in parliament following attack

Representatives from PETA, along with environmental activists across the UK, have lobbied a petition to ban the hunting of ‘our dwindling native wolf population’. The move follows a report last month of the brutal slaughter of a wolf in ‘Deep Dark Forest’.

Police were called to investigate the incident that saw an unnamed man hack a single wolf to death with an axe when it breached the perimeter of his inner-forest smallholding.

Reports emerged that the man in question disturbed the wolf while it was feeding. Experts believe this could have prompted the animal’s defense instinct.

Parliament is due to review the issue, following the twenty-thousand-strong petition (fuelled by a successful social media campaign) lobbied earlier this week.

Iona Mooncup (PETA) was quoted saying 'The Big Bad Wolf’s environment is under threat due to the expansion of built-up areas, fracking, and black market poaching. We need to act now before this majestic beast is lost forever.’

The British Big Bad Wolf (Ln. Britannicus Maximus Meanimus Lupus) is the biggest native canine found in the UK. Non-migratory, and solitary by nature, the reclusive creature was placed on the ‘Critically Endangered’ list by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Recent attacks on humans have been attributed to the falling Little Pig population – Wolves are extending their hunting grounds in a bid to find food. More information on how to stay safe in Wolf Hot Spots can be found at www.loveourwolves.co.uk.

The woodcutter in question faces charges of poaching and animal cruelty. His hunting license has been temporarily revoked.
