Someone who thinks the same way will never ignore a call to action. On 24 June, Wednesday, the Salford Clean Litter Picking event united young people concerned about the environmental issues, especially the problem of rubbish in the Manchester area. A new online campaign MCRagainstrubbish was launched just before the cleanup, so it was a good start in keeping Manchester clean!
As a part of the National Recycle Week the cleaning event in Salford was organized with support of Keep Britain Tidy, Salford City Council, and the Salford Park Rangers. They have provided volunteers with the equipment such as litter pickers, bags, gloves, and protective vests. The green garment attracted attention of the citizens, so from the participants of the cleanup they could find out more about recycling and how to make the area greener. Two hours of litter picking went quickly, while the bags were filled to the maximum. All the collected rubbish has been sorted and sent to reprocessing companies to be turned into new materials and products. Great job!
The National Recycle Week this year is taking place from 22-28 June. This year’s focus is on raising the public’s awareness that there are lots of items that they can recycle from all around the home that they might not previously have thought about recycling.
UpRising Leadership took on hosting duties motivating volunteers to gather for street cleaning. Victoria Turnbull, Programme Manager for UpRising, also joined this event. https://youtu.be/PdWwd_pOPb4
