Ever wondered why your street or road is named as it is ????

I went to school opposite a street named Goulden Street and some of my class mates lived there, later in life I used an off license on this street.

I recently bought a book about the area I live in and in the course of reading learnt that Emmeline Pankhurst nee Goulden  (of suffragette fame)

had moved into the Seedley area of Salford when her father went into partnership with John Hody James at the Seedley

Print works.

It then became clear as to how Goulden Street had been so named.

The Local History Library based on The Crescent in Salford has lots of interesting resources should you want to research the area of Salford you live in.
