Temporary allotments have been set up on Meadow Road as part of the project.

The idea behind these ‘Meanwhile’ sites  is to encourage locals to grow their own veg in shared, temporary environments as a healthy and affordable food source. So far Meanwhile Sites have been set up on a development site on Meadow Road with the help of Salix Homes-using old water containers in which to grow vegetables. As these are portable they can simple be hoisted up and moved elsewhere once the space is no longer available

Wholebox are also set to become involved with the project. They are setting up a local whole food store called ’78 Steps’ to complement their door to door vegetable boxes service.

It is this type of work set out in the Irwell Valley Sustainable Communities project that will no doubt go on to prove increasingly important in the modern world; projects such as the Community Growing Sites are something we can all get behind and help grow from the roots.
