The former Greencroft Comprehensive school, soon to be re-opened as Croft Community School.

The clients concerned about the closure of Greencroft Community Centre heaved a sigh of relief this week when they were given the news that negotiations has resulted in a reprieve.

Durham county council had given notice to the users in December 2014 causing great consternation among the many groups. The Centre remained open in the new

year while negotiations were underway. The resulting petition instigated talks between the council and Centre committee, and on Monday they were given the news

that the lease had been extended until such time that Croft Community School (the former Harelaw School) opens in the summer at their new site on the former

Greencroft Secondary school. The site will include rooms and facilities to be shared for the good of all the community. The secretary  said  he was greatly relieved. He went on to report, “I am very proud that the committee has seen the Centre flourish and optimistically hope for a satisfactory partnership in our new venue.”

The Centre is currently used by 2 craft clubs, a slimming group, an exercise class and a playgroup amongst others, meeting during the day or in the evenings. For information on the groups or to hire the rooms contact any member of the committee.
